Yankees claim Russ Canzler

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees claimed infielder/outfielder Russ Canzler off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Friday.

Canzler, 26, appeared in 26 games for the Indians as a September call-up in 2012, hitting .269 with three home runs and 11 RBI.

The versatile righty made 24 starts for the Tribe, with 11 coming in the outfield, seven at first base and six as the designated hitter.

The Hazleton, PA native also saw major league time in three games for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011. In 29 career games, he carries a .271 average with three home runs and 12 RBI.
