Recap: Evansville vs. Princeton
Evansville, IN (Sports Network) - Douglas Davis dropped in 31 points to lead the Princeton Tigers to a 95-86 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces, in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational at the Ford Center.
Ian Hummer added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers (20-11), while Patrick Saunders finished with 13 points and Mack Darrow chipped in 12 points.
Colt Ryan led the Purple Aces (16-16) with 29 points, while Ned Cox scored 15 points and Troy Taylor netted 13 points.
Both teams shot well out of the gate. Evansville hit on 60 percent from the field, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Princeton was even better in the first period, connecting on 61.3 percent of its shots from the floor and 5- of-11 from three-point range, which allowed the Tigers to go into halftime leading 48-47.
After the break, both teams continued to shoot well, with the Tigers making 58.6 percent of their field goals and the Purple Aces bettering that at 59.1 percent. Princeton trailed by two, 85-83, with just over four minutes to play, but finished the game on a 12-1 run, which consisted of 10 points from Davis and a dunk by Hummer, to escape with the road victory.
Princeton had the edge in points in the paint, 42-34. The Tigers held a 28-22 edge on the boards.
