Recap: Nicholls State vs. IUPUI

Thibodaux, LA (Sports Network) - Alex Young finished with 25 points to lead the IUPUI Jaguars over the Nicholls State Colonels, 84-80, in a BracketBusters matchup at Stopher Gym.

For the Jaguars (13-16), Stephen Thomas and Christian Siakam each added 14 points and Ian Chiles chipped in 13 points.

Chris Talkington led the Colonels (8-17) with 16 points, while Shane Rillieux scored 15 points and dished out seven assists, Jeremy Smith finished with 13 points, Dantrell Thomas added 12 and Trevon Lewis scored 10 points.

IUPUI shot well to start the contest, hitting 60.9 percent from the floor. Nicholls State was accurate as well, making 50 percent of their field goals in the first half, but the Jaguars took a 43-38 advantage into halftime.

The teams continued their strong shooting performances in the second half. The Jaguars connected on 59.1 percent while the Colonels stayed close by converting 53.9 percent. After leading by as many as 13 in the second half, the Jaguars held on for the road victory.

IUPUI won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Nicholls State 29-21. The teams were knotted on points in the paint, 34-34.
