Recap: Western Mich vs. Eastern Mich
Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Darrell Lampley's lay up with one second remaining gave the Eastern Michigan Eagles a thrilling 54-53 win over the Western Michigan Broncos in Mid-American Conference action at University Arena.
Lampley had 15 points in the game and Antonio Green added 12 for Eastern Michigan (14-16, 9-6 MAC) which has won three straight. Jamell Harris collected eight rebounds as well for the Eagles.
Mike Douglas scored 15 points and Flenard Whitfield added 14 for Western Michigan (12-18, 6-9).
Eastern Michigan held a slim 26-25 lead at the end of the first half despite shooting at a 39.1 percent clip by holding advantages in points from three point range (6-3) and the free throw line (6-4).
The Eagles largest lead in the second half was six, 48-42, with 5:48 left but the Broncos battle back and took a 53-52 lead on a Whitfield free throw with 16 seconds remaining. Lampley then took the ball to the rim and finished on the teams next possession and the Broncos failed to get off a final shot.
Despite the loss Western Michigan was the better team on the inside outscoring Eastern Michigan 28-14 on points in the paint while holding a 29-25 rebound advantage.
