Recap: Saint Peters vs. Niagara

Jersey City, NJ (Sports Network) - Juan'ya Green scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Niagara Purple Eagles as they defeated the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 59-56, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference bout at the Yanitelli Center.

Antoine Mason chipped in 16 points for Niagara (13-17, 8-9 MAAC) while Ameen Tanksley pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Yvon Raymond led SPC (5-24, 4-13) with 10 points and seven rebounds.

SPC took a 35-27 lead into halftime after it shot 56.5 percent from the floor in the opening period. Niagara made only 31.8 percent of its field goal attempts, but stayed within striking distance by converting 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the first half.

The Purple Eagles rallied back after the break by making 20-of-26 from the free throw line in the second half. The Peacocks' lead disappeared after they shot 21.4 percent from the field and went 0-of-13 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes. SPC led 56-55 with two minutes left to play. Tanksley and Green made a pair of free throws each to put the Purple Eagles up 59-56. Chris Burke attempted a game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds, but it was unsuccessful and the Peacocks lost for the sixth time in a row.

Niagara managed to win despite shooting just 25.6 percent from the field in the contest.
