Recap: Seton Hall vs. Rutgers
Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Dane Miller registered a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights outlasted the Seton Hall Pirates in overtime, 77-72, in a Big East Conference clash at the Prudential Center.
For the Scarlet Knights (13-16, 5-11 Big East), Eli Carter added 17 points, while Gilvydas Biruta and Jerome Seagears each finished with 16 points.
Jordan Theodore led five Pirates (19-10, 8-9) in double figures with 17, while Fuquan Edwin scored 13 points, Aaron Cosby finished with 13 points, Patrik Auda chipped in 10 points and Herb Pope had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Seton Hall shot very well to start the contest, connecting on 57.1 percent from the field, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. Rutgers shot 47.8 percent, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, as the Pirates took a 32-28 lead into halftime.
After the break, the Pirates struggled from the floor, making just 34.6 percent, including 2-of-8 on three-pointers. The Scarlet Knights mounted their comeback by shooting 50 percent in the second half, including 4-of-7 from long range. After the teams traded leads in the second half, Rutgers led 65-62 with 1:27 to play, but Theodore was able to make 3-of-4 free-throws in the final 1:05, including the tying free-throws with 12 second to play, to force overtime with the score tied at 65-65.
In the extra session, the Scarlet Knights scored the first five points, but the Pirates were able to counter and even up the score. With the game tied at 72-72 with just 15 seconds left in overtime, Seagears knocked down his second three-pointer of the extra session to put Rutgers ahead for good, snapping a six-game losing streak.
