Recap: Purdue vs. Penn State
West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Robbie Hummel scored 26 points, pulled down eight rebounds and dished out six assists in Purdue's 80-56 rout of Penn State.
D.J. Byrd contributed 14 points, Terone Johnson 13 and Lewis Jackson scored 12 on Senior Night for the Boilermakers (20-10, 10-7 Big Ten), who have won three in a row since a Feb. 19 home loss to Michigan State. They'll close the regular season on Sunday at No. 18 Indiana.
Tim Frazier had 24 points for the Nittany Lions (12-18, 4-13), who have dropped three straight overall and 10 in a row on the road. Penn State, which finished its regular season road mark at 1-11, will host 13th-ranked Michigan Sunday afternoon.
The Boilermakers dropped a 65-45 decision to Penn State at the Bryce Jordan Center on Jan. 5, but on Wednesday Purdue used a strong second half to pull away from the Nittany Lions and beat them for a sixth straight time at Mackey Arena.
Penn State shot 56.5 percent in the first half, but still trailed 37-32 at the break. Hummel's three in the waning seconds capped an 8-2 run to end the half.
Jackson's jumper ended a string of 11 consecutive Purdue points to start the second half. The blowout was just beginning at that time for the Boilermakers, who led by as many as 27 with under three minutes left.
Purdue held a decisive 31-17 rebounding advantage and shot a sizzling 15-of-23 from the field in the second half to end the game at 57.4 percent. Conversely, Penn State was 9-of-25 from the floor over the last 20 minutes.
Penn State senior guard Cammeron Woodyard did not play in the game and is likely to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a fracture in his right foot during shooting drills towards the end of the Wednesday morning shoot-around in West Lafayette.Game Notes
