In front of the entire school Wednesday morning, Principal Sue Hegedus helped cut the yellow ribbon on the new playground at Hooker Oak Elementary. August 31, vandals burned down the former playground. Hegedus says the fire was so hot, it "melted the fiberglass in the slide, bent the tall metal supports, and seriously singed the magestic trees which give the playground its shade." Through fundraising efforts and donations, the school was able to build a new playground. Several students read essays to celebrate the grand opening. The vandals who burned down the old playground have not been caught.
