An early morning fire damaged a nail salon in a popular Chico shopping center Thursday morning.
It started just before 3:00 a.m. at the U.S. Nails and Spa in the Safeway Shopping Center on Mangrove Avenue.
Smoke was seen coming from the building, and officials believe the fire started in the store and spread to the attic.
Neighboring businesses Verizon Wireless, Subway and the As Seen on TV store suffered light smoke damage, but the businesses were expected to remain open.
Lt. Jesse Alexander with the Chico Fire Department told us, "Engine 2 did a quick initial attack, forced entry did a quick initial attack and knocked down the fire. The biggest problem is smoke damage that passed from occupancy to occupancy."
The cause remains under investigation. ####
