Saturday morning a new monument to honor Hmong leader General Vang Pao was unveiled. General Po was an American ally during the Vietnam war. He worked with a secret army, backed by the C.I.A. Hundreds of people traveled from across the country to witness the unveiling. The monument stands outside the Chico Municipal building off of Main Street facing the City Plaza. The Chico City Council approved the installation about a year ago. The Hmong community was able to raise $40,000 for the monument. It stands six feet high and is made out of granite.
