In Tehama County, the bodies of the two drowning victims from over the weekend, a young boy and his father, were recovered Monday morning. This was the scene yesterday at a place called Murphy's pond just outside Cottonwood as divers looked for the bodies of 27-year-old J.P VanSickle and his five-year-old son J.J. According to family, the father was out in a boat with his son and four year old daughter Aubrey enjoying the day when the boy fell over board. His father dove in after him. Both were not wearing life vests. The grandfather witnessed from the shore and tried to swim out to help but by the time he reached the spot where he last saw them, they had already gone too far under. Earlier today, dive team crews were finally able to locate the father and son in the 20-foot deep pond. A family member also shared with us that when divers found the father, his arms were still wrapped around his son. The family is setting up a memorial fund. We'll bring you the latest details on that when they become available.
