It's a shocking event residents on Hampshire Drive in Chico, like Cass Scaglione, never thought they'd see so close to home. "Very much a surprise in our neighborhood, very unexpected to find something quite to this level of, I guess, severity that happened. It's quiet here, you don't really see much going on. Occasionally a lost dog flyer, but that's about it."
Butte County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Donna Teifer's home after her colleagues called in to report she had not shown up to work. When they arrived just before 2pm Tuesday, they discovered Teifer's body, along with multiple signs that prompted authorities to suspect homicide. "The crime scene truck was here, and the Sheriff's office, and so on. So, they had it blocked off, so we couldn't drive in front of the house, and had to come around, and it was for several hours," according to Scaglione.
After interviewing neighbors, and friends, Sheriff's officials detained Donna's son, Adam Jacob, who has reportedly had several recent disputes with Donna. Neighbors who were not able to speak on camera say they have reason to believe Adam was involved, but could not specify as to why. Other sources close to the investigation told Action News that Adam is currently going through a divorce, and he may have been in a custody battle for his son with his mother. That source also revealed that Adam has a bi-polar disorder, and they did not believe he was taking the proper medications.
It's all news that's hard for many to take in, and Scaglione says she's not sure the neighborhood will ever be the same. "I think everyone , right now, is probably pretty stunned that it happened at all, but hopefully we'll be able to re-capture that feeling of community we do have here."
