Beating victim Tyler Burton has suffered a new setback in his recovery, according to family members.

Communicating through the Chico Police Department, family members of the Shasta College student said Tyler had made some very minor improvements. However, on Wednesday he suffered medical setbacks and his condition is extremely
critical at Enloe Medical Center.

His potential for survival is still very much in question, the family says. The family is asking for help through prayer.

A Citrus Heights man is being held in Butte County Jail on $1 million bail on suspicion of the brutal beating.

Police say Burton was found near West 8th and Ivy streets around 1:15 a.m. Sunday as several bystanders were trying to take care of his injuries. According to witness, Burton was with friends as they were confronted by another group and a fight broke out.

As Burton was rushed to the hospital, police began looking for a suspect. Soon after, police located 20-year-old Andres Rodriguez of Citrus Heights. Rodriguez, who is not a student, was arrested on suspicion of assault with great bodily injury. There's no word on what started the fight.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the Chico Police Department Detective Bureau at 897-5820 during business hours or 895-4911 during non-business hours
