A new law that was recently passed in August is stirring up dust in the antique industry. AB 391 will lump antique dealers in the same category as pawnshop owners, requiring them to become part of a statewide electronic reporting system. The database will track the buying and selling of all secondhand property.
The new law will require antique dealers to pay annual fees for the database. Many fear the law will shatter the business for those who struggle in the business. A petition is in the works to repeal the law.
