Chico State President Paul Zingg today announced the resignation of CSUC Provost Sandra Flake. Here is the letter Zingg sent out to the campus Friday morning:
"Provost Sandra Flake has resigned from her administrative position, effective immediately. She will be returning to the faculty and joining the English Department. Sandra and I met yesterday afternoon when she informed me of her decision. On a temporary basis I will be assuming her provost duties, and will be meeting today with her administrative staff and the Council of Deans to discuss the timetable for a search process for Sandra's replacement. I will be back in touch with more information in that regard as soon as possible as well as clarification on the possible reassignment of some responsibilities in Academic Affairs on an interim or trial basis until a new provost is on board.
Sandra has been provost and vice president for academic affairs for almost five years since coming to Chico State in April of 2007. Throughout years of very trying budget circumstances, she kept her division focused on supporting students and exploring new ways to improve instruction, efforts fully in line with the University's strategic priorities. I want to thank her for her dedication and expertise and wish her well as a member of the English faculty. I know Sandra enjoys living in Chico and being at Chico State. She will continue to make a positive contribution on campus and in the lives of our students, faculty and staff.
Sandra has assembled an effective administrative team, and we are fortunate to have an outstanding group of deans. These factors will make the coming interim period go much more smoothly. The University and I will rely upon their assistance, and the support of all of you, as we move forward with our projects, initiatives and day to day tasks in Academic Affairs. I have no doubt that, together, we will continue to strengthen our teaching and learning community and the service we provide to all those who count on us. Thank you."
There is no word yet on what prompted Flake's resignation.
