Butte County Habitat For Humanity has stepped in to help build a new home for a woman and her five kids after hearing the family would have to move out of Chico because they could not afford to stay here any longer after losing her husband to cancer. Habitat For Humanity began building the families home on East 19th Street in September 2012. 80-percent of the labor has been donated. There are more than 20 volunteers donating a majority of the materials and their time building the home. Geri Batman's husband passed away in the beginning of 2011 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2009. She says this house feels like a miracle. Habitat for humanity is hoping to present keys to the home to the family at the end of this month.
