According to the Chico Police Department, a 300lbs. bear was spotted Sunday afternoon around Springfield Manor.  Chico police say neighbors were told to stay inside their homes with the doors locked while wildlife officers pursued it.  The bear squeezed under an elderly woman's cracked garage door.  The senior's pomerian began barking wildy. Wildlife officials told the 81 year old woman to close her garage door, not realizing she didn't have an automatic clicker.  She opened the door from the house and stepped into the garage briefly to reach the button, and says she locked eyes with the animal.  Wildlife officers tranquilized the bear in the garage a short time later.  It was determined the bear is an adult male.  The animal was tagged and returned to the mountains east of Chico.
