As playoffs approach, the Willows High volleyball team is in good shape.
The Honkers sport a 27-8 record and will most likely be a force to be reckoned with in Division 4.

Part of the reason The Honkers are flying past most of the competition is the play of outside hitter Megan Hughes.

Hughes leads the team in multiple categories, including, kills, digs, and blocks.
What makes that even more impressive is the fact that she only stands five-foot-six.

"I may not be the tallest person, but i try to make up for it by being super athletic," says Hughes.

Hughes is not only a key member on one of the North State's top volleyball teams, but she is also one of Willows High's top students with a 3.86 GPA.

Next year, Hughes wants to attend Butte College so she can play volleyball, or perhaps softball, another sport Hughes excels at.

But before this Honker can spread her wings and take the next step, she still has some work left to do with her volleyball team. Hughes says she wants a section title and at least win in the state tournament. If that proves to be the case, most likely, it will be due to the solid play from Hughes. But for her, it's not about her individual success, it's all about the team.

"I'm not really one for the spotlight, and that's 'cause as a team we're good. No individuals really stand out. We work together as a team. It's a ton of fun," says Hughes.
