The Butte College Men's Basketball Team hits the road for the Las Positas Tourney this weekend in Livermore. One of the stars of the Roadrunners this season, scores, rebounds, blocks shots and even recruits!
Last year Slovakian Pavol Losonsky did plenty of damage on the court for the Roadrunners Basketball Team and this year he'll be getting some help from fellow countryman Peter Simek.
Butte Coach Russ Critchfield says, "Both of these young men will play high and low for us, they're very talented, they play very well together, they played together as younger kids, so they have some history there."
In fact such a good history that Pavol played an integrate role in bringing Peter to Butte this year.
Losonsky says, "We were in touch last year, he was in east coast but he didn't like it there and I just knew that Butte College is perfect place and so i brought him over and we needed a big guy anyway.
Simek says, "It's just a great feeling to have somebody who we were growing up with, because me and Pavol, when somebody ask about each other we just say we are brothers, we are cousins, so it's just a great feeling to have somebody you can talk to even in your own language and somebody who know he got your back. So we just share a lot of things on and off the court."
And they won't be separating anytime soon either, as both plan to sign with D-1 U.C. Irvine and transfer there next season.
Simek says, "I think being a member of a Division I school is dream of every kid who's ever played High School basketball, so i'm just really excited."
But it's this season for the Roadrunners that should be very exciting, with the 2 6'9" Slovakians leading the way.
Losonsky says, "I don't see us losing this year, you know we had a good season last year, but this year I think it's something special you know, we have a very good team, good guys, like all of returners and I think it's gonna work out this year."
Critchfield says, "I certainly don't expect us to be undefeated, I think the kids have placed some high expectations on themselves and with that certainly comes some added pressure, maybe a burden at times, but we just need to stay in the moment."
And that moment for Butte Basketball is right now. Reporting for Action Sports, I'm Lee Carrell.
