A suitcase that someone placed outside Chico's Social Security Office Monday morning has been checked out by bomb experts and found to be harmless.

Chico Police have called in the Butte County Bomb Squad after someone left a black suitcase outside Chico's Social Security Office Monday morning.  With the help of a remote bomb detection robot, authorities determined that suitcase was empty.

Witnesses reported that someone around 8 a.m. got out of a van and placed a black suitcase on the sidewalk in front of the Social Security office on Lassen Avenue in north Chico. Streets in the area were blocked off to traffic for about three hours.
