A tense situation in Chico where a standoff just blocks away from Citrus Elementary School Friday has been ongoing since before noon.
The SWAT team is currently surrounding a home near Warner Street and West Fourth Avenue.
They are waiting for a search warrant before they can move forward.
The standoff began when a 17-year-old boy wanted on a felony assault warrant out of Sacramento was spotted by an officer around 11:00 a.m.
The teen fled, and the officer chased the suspect into the home.
The SWAT team was called in around 2:00 p.m. because officers believe the teen has a high powered rifle … and two city blocks have been blocked off.
As of 7 p.m. authorities had not been able to make contact with the suspect.
