Polling places in Butte County opened their doors to voters at seven Tuesday morning for the special election to determine our next fourth district state senator.

Today's runoff election between republican Jim Nielsen of Gerber and democrat Mickey Harrington of Magalia, is not expected to be a big draw for voters. The two are running for the 4th district state senate seat which was left vacant when Doug Lamalfa ran for and won the seat in congress, vacated by congressman Wally Herger.

County Clerk Candace Grubbs is predicting a 26-percent voter turnout. She's encouraging people to at least return their absentee ballots at polling places; as it is still an important election. Polls close at eight pm and voting results should be released by 11 Tuesday night.
