Friday, January 27th marked the recognition of "Human Trafficking Awareness Day" in Chico. It's to rally support to help abolish slavery and fight the trafficking of humans.

One of the participants was a man who travels the world, helping to rescue girls and children sold into prostitution.  Aaron cohen says human trafficking is also a problem that happens here.

He was in the music business with the band "Jane's Addiction" and he was a heroin addict, before he transformed himself into a champion of children and women forced to work or have sex under threat of violence.

Cohen is described as a humanitarian. He fights the trafficking of humans internationally, and here at home.  He works with the "Abolish Slavery Coalition" and authorities to visit brothels and make contact with victims who need rescuing.  Often they are children sold into slavery, which he calls "The Holocaust of Our Generation."

Cohen told Action News Reporter Linda Watkins-Bennett in an interview today that slavery is the fastest growing illegal business in the world, "Some say 27 million others 30 million. One million children are transported across borders every year. It's unbelievable."

Cohen says it's being made worse by internet globalization and pornography, "we're seeing an entirely new generation of predators bred from this internet boom."

Cohen met with local law enforcement Friday about their efforts to fight prostitution...a crime he says is far from victimless, "Most women enter it between 12 and 14 years old, and after beat downs and drug addictions, what other choices do they have?"

When asked what the average person can do to get involved and make a difference, Cohen replied, "We can be connected in a way where we attack the demand for slavery to protect victims, prosecute offenders and prevent this crime from growing in Chico."

Cohen gave a presentation at St. Augustine's Church in Chico Friday evening, followed by a the "abolitionist" Benefit Concert at "Lost on Main."

Dear Mr. Conrad Ramdial~The Universe is so Thankful for your Being and what Your Being does in the world to bring an end to THIS CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY. Every individual act of child trafficking into prostitution robs US of the POTENTIALITY OF ONE BEING who could make the world a better place. At the rate this monstrosity of a crime against children is occurring, as Mr. Cohen so aptly demonstrates, every Being who walks TheMotherEarth needs to be made aware of its existence. The stories of your experiences in rescuing victims would be valuable to the American Public, as there is a general perception here that THIS ONLY OCCURS IN 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES. YOUR VOICE, MR. CONRAD RAMDIAL, COULD HELP THE AMERICAN PUBLIC GAIN FURTHER UNDERSTANDING IN HOW IT MANIFESTS RIGHT HERE IN THEIR OWN BACK YARDS. PLEASE-->All HawkBros Honorably ask that you connect with one of the many fine organizations (like ABOLISHSLAVERY.ORG and also see the work that Shared Hope International is doing within the US borders regarding Legislative report cards being issued to states to see how the laws on the books are protecting minors from being trafficked into the sex-industries --> please see this link below --> http://www.sharedhope.org/Portals/0/Documents/SHIProtectedInnocenceChallengeFINAL.pdf Blessings to You, Mr. Conrad Ramdial. mr aaron cohen my name is conrad ramdial and i'm living in chico temp. i want u to know that we need more people like you who gives a damm. i wish i can travel with you and help too. you are doing a job that most people charge money for. it's good to know that people still gives a damm about the abuse and trafficking of children. i once saved a young woman of 16 yrs of age from coke dealers in the state of fla. i took her home to louisana and refused the 5,000 dollars the parents wanted to give me. we are spending more money overseas than for programs in education for our young ones in society thats caught up in these situation.here in chico, ca there is alot of young people on crystal meth and is heading down the wrong road to drugs and prostitution.i feel sorry for them.the adult drug dealears who sells drugs to kids should be locked away for a long time. our young people today is our future generations. illegal drugs is a bomb that blows up your life and a few others around it. child prostitution and human trafficking is worst than any known terrorist organizations.because it involves children, drugs and abuse. i thank you again mr cohen.

Aaron Cohen is right on target when he suggests that human trafficking is also a problem that happens in Chico. Although there are many approaches that can be employed to combat it, nothing is more effective than education in the public schools. In fact, the more that the students know, the safer they are. If this is not already happening, I would like to suggest that the State Board of Education be approached to consider taking the initiative to foster the development of a few innovative age-appropriate programs for use in the public schools to educate students, in a sensitive way, about the sordid realities of Human Trafficking. We can do something to reduce the scale on the domestic side of trafficking by sensitizing our youth to the dangers of trusting seemingly friendly acquaintances and being enticed to make bad decisions that have terrible consequences. - Prof Patt, http://gvnet.com/humantrafficking/
