Two people are dead after a fatal collision that caused both vehicles to burst into flames in Redding. It happened just before 2 a.m. Thursday morning at the intersection of Highway 273 and Buenaventura Boulevard. Police say a UPS tractor trailer was turning onto Buenaventura from Highway 273, when a car traveling at a high rate of speed ran a red light and crashed into it. The crash caused both vehicles to catch fire and sent the tractor spinning 180 degrees. A Redding police officer who witnessed the crash was able to pull the driver of the tractor out and help him put out the flames on his lower body. The officer was not able to get to the 2 people in the car because it was completely engulfed in flames. Their identities are not being released at this time. The driver of the UPS truck, John Abraham of Redding, was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown. Highway 273 north at Breslauer Way and 273 south at Wyndham Lane remain closed as police continue to investigate. No time estimate has been given for when the highway will re-open.
