Every year around Halloween, tales of hauntings and ghosts seem to pop up all around. We go back to a so-called haunted apartment where more tenants are experiencing what some describe as paranormal activity.
One year ago, Chico resident Jodi Foster came to us with her own ghost story.
In her first interview she told us, "Apparently she had been murdered, and she lived in that apartment that I had lived in, and for the longest time people would move in and move out."
And it wasn't long before she was driven out of the Chico apartment by unexplainable events from objects moving to lights flipping off and on.
The paranormal activity wasn't just a one time occurrence, the current tenants have had their own set of strange happenings.
Leticia Garcia lives there now and says, “We started hearing weird things, and we went right to the manager and he told us the story, and I was freaked out kinda.”
The story of a missing girl, Marie Elizabeth Spannhake, who may have been abducted and murdered, but who's case remains unsolved.
Garcia says, “We would hear tapping, like running. One night, it sounded like a woman was being raped.”
The manager got the current tenants in contact with Foster, to compare stories.
Foster says, “It's interesting another person is having paranormal experiences in the apartment and they happened at the same time of night as me.”
Since the two have talked, things seem to be settling at the apartment.
Garcia says, “The last thing I saw was her, or not her per say, but a woman standing in the mirror but since then we blessed the house and it has been fine.”
But while doing this story, I discovered the odd activity hasn't been limited to just one apartment.
Several tenants say it seems, at times, their apartments are also haunted.
The missing persons case remains open, and it may years before it's solved, but Foster has faith that whatever spirit is in the complex will be put to rest someday.
"I eventually believe the activity will cease, I can't say why at this point, but I do."
Foster is working on a book entitled “Haunted Chico” and if you'd like to share any experiences or stories with her email her at chicorose11@yahoo.com.
