The normally quiet community of Gridley has been rocked by two gang related shootings in the past month leaving one man dead and a second likely paralyzed.
The spike in violence has many residents worried.
"I'm scared that something is going to happen, or I'm going to be at the wrong place at the wrong time," Gridley resident Christine Cunningham said.
The October first murder of Alonzo Morales was the first in Gridley since three people were killed in gang related violence between 2003 and 2004.
With a second shooting at the Fast Trip on Highway 99 Friday sending a man to the hospital with serious injuries, police acknowledge they have a problem.
“We don't know why we are having more gang stuff going on right now,” Gridley Police Chief Gary Keeler said.
While Gridley Police haven't determined the cause of the friction between the gangs, they have made arrests in both shootings.
They say the main reason they were able to make arrests was the quick response time and hope those response times to discourage future violence.
"We'll continue to investigate and try and get intelligence and determine what is the cause of some of this, and slow the violence down," Keeler said.
