People looking for a warm lunch in Downtown Chico Friday found their way to Mayhem Gourmet Grilled Cheese.
The Area’s newest food truck made its debut Thursday night, quickly drawing interest from local foodies.
"I'm excited about a new one. It's good to have options," Brendan Fay said.
But these aren't the grilled cheese sandwiches you remember from your childhood.
They’re filled with not only cheese, but bacon, ham, turkey and any number of special sauces.
The idea came about after Jennie and Jeremy Wolfe moved back to the North State from Portland and found very few local restaurant choices for their four-year-old son.
"So we thought the kids need something and grilled cheese it was," Jennie Wolfe said.
After buying a truck, the couple went to work building their kitchen themselves. They used skills they learned running their own painting company along with a little advice from friends in the industry.
“It was a lot of blood, sweat and tears as we like to say," Jeremy Wolfe said.
After two days the truck still has a basic black paint scheme, but the Wolfe's already have plans to wrap it with custom comic book characters and even add a TV to entertain people while they wait."
"For video games, or the game or movies just to have fun," Jennie Wolfe said.
It's not just the truck that will be getting a facelift in the coming weeks. Jeremy is already working on new sandwiches to add to the menu.
"Soon to come, we will be doing Smoked Goudas and Brier cheeses. We are going to do a lot of different stuff," Jeremy Wolfe said.
