A Corning woman lost her home in a devastating fire on Friday the 13th.  But she also lost dozens of cats and dogs who were killed in the fire.  Last Friday, Sue Shannon's woodstove ignited, sparking the fire that destroyed her double-wide mobile home on McLane Avenue.  She escaped unharmed.  Shannon told Action News "It was locked on the inside, I kept jerking and jerking.  I don't know where I got the strength, but I got the door open."

But left inside were animals, dozens of them, stray dogs and cats that she had taken in.  Many were consumed by the blaze.  Shannon said "I had three kittens in a crate and another cat with a broken leg.  I couldn't get at it.  Because the flames and the smoke were just coming at me."

The image haunts Sue every night.  She was unable to retrieve her babies, as she calls them.  "You know they depend on you and I couldn't get to them and seeing them burn like that just kills me."

There are survivors, they troll the burned property looking for their next meal, and looking for a permanent home.  Shannon says she has no clue what she's going to do now, or where she is going to live.

For the next 30 days, Sue Shannon is being provided a place by the American Red Cross.  She is looking for a place to live, any place.  Her friends hope someone may be able to provide a trailer for her to live in on her property, or someone in Corning has a room she can rent.

If you want to help Sue financially, there is an account in Sue Shannon's name at the Bank of America in Corning.
