The Butte County Coroner's Office has confirmed that 21-year-old Chico State Student Mason Sumnicht has died after being taken off of life support earlier this week.

Sumnicht was rushed to Enloe Medical Center on Nov. 4 after friends found him unconscious following a night of heavy drinking during his 21st birthday celebration.

Earlier today, Chico State University President Paul Zingg suspended all sorority and fraternity activities due Sumnicht's overdose and other alcohol-related incidents. Sumnicht was reportedly pledging to join the Sigma Pi fraternity.
