It may be freezing outside come nightfall, but that isn't stopping experts from urging residents to prepare for the upcoming fire season.
The Butte County Fire Safe Council is in full swing with it's annual chipper program. The state and federally funded program helps residents in fire prone zones by clearing out trees, shrubs and vegetation too close to homes.
The goal is to create enough defensible space that homes will be protected if a fire strikes.
