Butte County's Department of Child Support Services has been named one of the top performing child support agencies in the state.
Butte was named most improved county in 2011, ranking 15th in California for overall performance.
Right now, nearly 90 trained workers are handling 12-thousand local active cases. Department officials say the biggest challenge for employees and the parent's they're working with ... is the economy. Sharon A. Stone is the Butte County Director of Child Support Services. She says,"So many parents that pay child support are out of work or under-employed and so we really have to watch that, to make sure the order is set in a fair amount, but something they can afford to pay regularly."
Stone says they also work to convey the importance of both parents being involved in a child's life, emotionally and financially.
She also says the department's new goal is to make it to the state's top ten performing counties . ###
