Many aspiring singers spend years trying to break into the business. In tonight's Kids In Action, reporter Rick Carhart introduces us to an Oroville teenager who has a chance to jump start her career at a very young age.

Korie Anne Rutenschroer has been a singer her whole life. She comes from a musical family...her brother is a drummer and her mom works as a manager for local artists.

Korie Anne says, "when I'm sad I sing sad songs and when I'm happy I sing really fun, joyful songs."
Korie Anne's Mom Cindy says, "she goes up to her room for hours just to sing, sing, sing...she loves music."
Korie Anne is only 13 years old, but her voice and her stage presence reflect a maturity beyond her years.
Cindy says, "she's so passionate, really feels her music. The minute she opens her mouth everybody feels it."
And that is just what happened when this 8th grader attended a Rascall Flatts concert at the Sleep Train Amphitheater In Marysville in September. Korie Anne entered a competition put on by "Chartbusters Karaoke", and was chosen from hundreds of singers all over the country as one of 25 finalists. If she wins the competition, her prize is a trip to a professional studio in Tennessee where she will record an album, and she'll get to meet Rascall Flatts, one of her favorite bands.
Korie Anne says, "it's very overwhelming when you're this young, to get this opportunity is amazing, I can't wait to find out if I won or not.
The competition is being voted on by Facebook users. For the whole month of November Korie Anne is encouraging everyone she knows to log on to Facebook and vote for her. But whether she wins this competition or not, she plans on being a singer for life.
Korie Anne says, "i've worked really hard...I don't know what else I would do. I love singing, it's part of me, it's my passion."
And her mom is happy to join her in the pursuit of her dream.
Cindy says, "i'll come sit up in her music room and make her turn on her PA system and sing for Mom, it's like my own personal concert."
Whether she's performing for her family or in front of a huge audience, Korie Anne is exactly where she wants to be.
Korie Anne says, "it gives me so much life when I'm on that stage, it's like I'm in my own room."
