Last spring, we told you about a fundraiser for "Recreation And Dreams", a program for kids with cancer and their families.  Local high school students were designing and building a playhouse that would be the prize in the fundraising raffle.  As reporter Rick Carhart tells us in tonight's Kids In Action, the playhouse is now finished, and a young brother and sister are doing their best to sell as many tickets as possible.

Tessa Bell is a fifth grader at Nord Country School, and she has a huge heart.

Tessa says, "I would step in front of a million people to take care of kids with cancer."

So on an evening last week, Tessa and her brother Robbie stepped in front of the school board to tell them why they should buy raffle tickets.

nats "you will win a playhouse that you can put at your house..."

The kids' mom Sheryl Morrow says, "it was really cool that they did that for the kids...it's unusual that they have kids come talk to them."

Their dad, Scott Morrow says, "I'm very proud of both of them that they're that age and are able to get up in front of a board of people and sell, this is great."

The sales pitch was pretty simple: just buy a raffle ticket (or six for $25), but their twist was that the winner should donate the "Cat In The Hat" themed playhouse to the school.

Robbie Bell says, "I really think it's important because we need new school playground equipment."

Sheryl says, "every year the school celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday and they thought because it's a Dr. Seuss themed playhouse that the parents and school board would want to buy the tickets."

The playhouse raffle is the main fundraiser of the year for the Recreation And Dreams program, providing events and activities so kids with cancer can get their minds off their illness.

Program Director Janean VeDova says, "there's not a lot of resources out there and it's important to these families."

For Tessa and Robbie, they just wanted to do their part to help out.

Tessa says, "I think it went pretty well, it convinced a couple people and I think we'll be getting some raffle tickets soon."

In Nord, I'm Rick Carhart for Action News.

If you would like to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win the playhouse.. they are available at S & S Produce, Diamond W Western Wear, or the Caring Choices office at 1398 Ridgewood Drive in Chico. The winning ticket will be drawn on December 20th.
