62 kids hit the links this week for the 18th annual Bidwell Park Junior Golf Camp.  Reporter Rick Carhart takes us out to the course to see the drives, chips, and putts in tonight's Kids in Action.

As local kids get into the swing of summer vacation, parents start thinking of ways to keep them occupied through the long hot days...

There are camps for any number of activities and interests, but here at the Skyway Golf Park and the Bidwell Park Golf Course, the coaches and helpers are teaching more than just how to hit the ball.

Golf Pro Hide Kubo says, "we teach them to respect the game of golf, si it teaches them a life lesson on respecting themselves and others."

And the kids look forward to this week every year.

Camper Daniel Currey says, "it's fun to use my driver and irons, hit the ball far and see what I can do."

Camper Joanna Crum says, "I want to see how much I've improved my golf."

And the coaches make sure to keep it exciting, even using the old exploding ball trick.

Camper Julian Ramirez says, "sometimes I hit super hard, sometimes I don't...today I swung super hard."

The reward for the coaches is seeing these kids improve.

Hide says, "they may only hit 1-2 shots in the whole hour that are really good, but the light in their eyes makes all the teachers smile, it's great."

And this camp isn't finished at the end of the week.

Kate Carlisle says, "they get four play dates with their friends, and a tournament at the end that the kids love to do."

Camper Jessica Crum says, "it's fun to compete with others and see how you improved from last year."

Some of these golfers have been coming here for years, and they can see the improvement over time.

Camper Christina Crum says, "you have to have a really powerful swing and be able to hit it where you want it to go."

Camper Christiane Carlisle says, "I've been doing it for a long time, I practice, I think I get better and better each year."

The parents, coaches, and players all agree...a summer spent on the golf course is a summer well spent.
